Albert Brooks wins Best Supporting Actor Award for DRIVE.

Albert Brooks
Albert Brooks is getting a surprise note from his “mother” tomorrow night at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. The group wanted Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds — who played Brooks’ parent in the 1996 movie “Mother” — to present him with its Best Supporting Actor award for his villainous turn in “Drive.” But Reynolds was already booked with a previous engagement, and we’re told she has instead penned a special note to be read from the podium. Brooks will be feted by the Lincoln Center Film Society tonight with a career retrospective, and he’s up for a Golden Globe next Sunday night. “Drive” is looking to rev up Best Picture Oscar buzz after getting 11 BAFTA long-list nominations.
