Du Bist Nicht Allein (You Are Not Alone) - The Roy Black Story (1996)

Director: Peter Keglevic
Original Title: You're not alone - The Roy Black Story
Year of publication: 1996
Genre: biopic, drama, music film
IMDB Link: You're Not Alone - The Roy Black Story

Roy Black was actually a hero of my childhood. "A castle on Lake Wörthersee", this street sweeper, also ran up and down the TV on our television. My very first record, which I bought as a tad of my own pocket money, was one of Roy Black. This has now grown out, luckily, but yes, those were my musical beginnings. And Roy Black was in a way Christoph Waltz 'beginning, at least that was one of the first roles for which he was respected many times. And I have to say: Waltz does not play Roy Black, he 's Roy Black. His acting performance in this biopic by Peter Keglevic is simply outstanding. The quality of his work only becomes more visible when you see the rest of the cast stump through the film. Very bad is Wolfgang Bathke as Roy Black's manager Bertram. I do not know what Bathke did full-time, but with drama that had nothing to do. And this dilettantism, this overpowering pathos in the game, in the script, in the music, runs through the whole movie. He also has his moments, no question about it, so the film strives to draw an unblemished image of the hit hero and wins towards the end, as it goes in the direction of crash, also a certain urgency, but since the cart has long been to the Wall driven. If it were not just the now two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, who saves with his charisma and his fine, nuanced game pretty much every bad scene and leads the good scenes to memorability. So there's at most (and only thanks to the haunting last third) four points for the film itself, but at least one Waltz point on top.
